Papallibrium at Women and Their Work 2016

Papellibrium at Women and Their Work, Austin.
March 12 - April 28, 2016

Over the past nine years, Orna Feinstein has collected tens of thousands of art exhibition invitations and she has repurposed them to create her new installation, Papellibrium. Combining the cards on the floor of the gallery in swirling patterns that make powerful use of the different palettes on the cards-one side black text, the other, colorful image- Feinstein breathes new life into these humble materials. The organic, curving shapes Feinstein creates on the floor simultaneously reference a field of flowers and a cross section of vascular cambium that could be straight from a plant anatomy book. Feinstein leads viewers through the unorthodox installation and challenges notions of positive and negative space incorporating the gallery architecture itself into the work. Papellibrium calls to mind the concept of equilibrium in which all biological systems survive, co-exist, and function.

Women And Their Work has been an integral part of Austin's cultural art scene for over 37 years.
Gallery Hours: Monday - Friday 10 am-6 pm and Saturday noon to 5pm.
Location: 1710 Lavaca Street Austin, TX 78701 Tel. (512) 477-1064.

Todd Camplin published a detailed review of this show on his June 2015  Todd Camplin Weekly...  column at the ModernDallas.net online magazine.  He wrote: "....Orna Feinstein is reason enough to go out of your way, because her work engages the eye like no other artist. Well, I say that, but she comes out of a rich tradition of artists that have played with the eye. Op artists Yaacov Agam and Victor Vasarely have great influence on her work, but I think Feinstein takes this mode of visual experimentation and furthers the conversation by layering, cutting, sewing, and working on Plexiglas...".

Anya Tish Gallery presents Translucent Trajectories: Orna Feinstein, Carlos Zerpabzueta

Anya Tish Gallery in Houston Texas, presents Translucent Trajectories: Orna Feinstein, Carlos Zerpabzueta. Artists’ Reception: Friday, October 12, 6:00 – 8:30 pm. On view: October 12 – November 10, 2012.

This exhibition already received several great reviews. In the article "TRANSLUCENT TRAJECTORIES: Orna Feinstein + Carlos Zerpabzueta" that appeared in modernhouston.net, Todd Camplin wrote: "...When you see Orna Feinstein’s work, you might immediately think of the Op art of Bridget Riley or the recent show by Carlos Cruz-Diez. However, Feinstein's approach seems to grow out of her observation of cellular structures of plants rather than just a post-minimalist response to purely geometrical art. I think Feinstein's work uses similar language as her artistic forbears, but her use of layering through concealment sets her apart."

In the HoustonPress "Translucent 3-D Magic at Anya Tish Gallery", Meredith Deliso wrote: "...Feinstein creates an almost "Magic Eye" effect with her Tree Dynamics series -- layered pieces of fabric, paper and monoprint on plexi that radiate orbs meant to represent the concentric circles of tree rings."

MULTI-LIBRIUM Paper Installation at Box13 Artspace, Houston Texas

Four years in the making, MULTI-LIBRIUM is a large scale paper installation made up of more than 10,000 reused art invitations and measures 50 feet x 23 feet. It seeks to challenge preconceived notions of the traditional gallery space, delivering an engaging contemporary installation where the use of space is limited only to the floor. The installation examines and illustrates the concept of equilibrium in which all biological systems co-exist, survive and function, a concept that operates both on a cellular and exterior level. The installation compares, contrasts and balances art and science, and creates soft tension between the organic and geometric. BOX13 Artspace, 6702 Harrisburg Blvd., Houston, Texas. Solo exhibition of a site specific installation, courtesy of Anya Tish Gallery. July 14, 2012 to August 18, 2012.
